Seminars

Are you interested in having a personal self defense seminar made available at your place of business, mom's group, club, or organization? If so, we offer individualized seminars well suited for your group's needs. For a list of prices, visit our pricing page.

Basic Self Defense (3 hours)

Although only three hours long, participants will have the opportunity to learn some of the basic techniques that we teach in our full length semester course. We teach students of every ability and only require that you come with enthusiasm. Students enrolled in our regular classes have ranged in age from 12 - 60 years old. Our motto is: if a technique is too much or it hurts, don't do it! Everyone needs to learn how to defend themselves, and we'll help you learn how. Some of these techniques include:

  • physical defense skills - blocking and stopping techniques
  • verbal defense and de-escalation
  • learning how to increase your intuition and awareness skills to avoid an attack

Special Rape Prevention Seminar (3 hours)

This is an ideal seminar for women of all ages. It focuses on discussions about rape prevention as well as practicing physical defenses against an attacker.  During the three hours, participants will learn about:

  • the dangers of date rape drugs and how to avoid becoming a victim
  • staying safe at parties involving alcohol
  • why the buddy system is a good idea
  • using your intuition and awareness to avoid getting caught in a dangerous situation
  • how to use confidence and your voice as a weapon
  • ground techniques to escape from an assault
  • physical defense techniques - includes a discussion on the difference between techniques known as shockers, and stoppers

One Hour Seminars:

Basic Self Defense

This is the introduction version of the 3 hour seminar.  It includes a short discussion of intuition, awareness, and avoidance, but centers on practicing basic physical techniques.

Intuition, Awareness, and Avoidance Seminar

This is a seminar which does not include pad work/the practice of physical techniques. In this particular seminar participants will learn how to:

  • listen and use their intuition to keep safe
  • increase general awareness skills
  • portray an attitude of confidence and thus avoid looking like a victim
  • de-escalate a potentially dangerous situation by using verbal skills

Healthy Relationships Seminar

This seminar is ideal for middle and high school aged girls. It helps to instill confidence and answers such questions as:

  • What defines a 'healthy' relationship?
  • How do you make your 'No' mean 'No!'?
  • What are the key indicators of a potentially abusive relationship?
  • How do you avoid entering into a potentially abusive relationship?

Kids Fight Back (2 hours)
Come out for a fun class of learning the basics of self defense.  Be prepared to meet our big, blue mascot 'Hank.'  Oh, and don't forget to bring your voice and lots of energy. Also, your parents are invited to watch the session if they are interested.

Teens Fight Back (3 hours)
Be there for a class which will help you to learn basic physical self defense techniques as well as how to use your voice and your intuition to stay safe.  A rule of self defense is, 'If it is possible to avoid a potentially dangerous situation before it arises, this is the best self defense there is.'  We will teach you some of the clues to look for and listen to in order to help you avoid being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
